Book Summary of Pomegranate
Pomegranate cultivation is one of the most remunerative farming enterprises in India. It is grown in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat on a large scale. The total pomegranate production in the world is 10 lakh tonnes. India produces 5 lakh tonnes but export only 75,000 tonnes and, their export ends by December. India has the scope to export from January to June to European countries. Farmers of pomegranate are advised to take Hasta Bahar flowering by pruning in August and Harvesting in March, to prevent Bacterial blight (Zanthomonas asxonopodis cv. Punicae) problem. This book covers all aspects viz., soil, water, climate, propagation, varieties, the estahlishment of a garden, pruning, pest and disease, nutrition, value-added products, wine-making etc.
About the Author
Dr. M K Sheikh completed his B.Sc. (Agri) from UAS, Bangalore, M.Sc., (Agri) in Horticulture and again Ph.D. in Horticulture from UAS, Dharwad. He has worked as a Team Leader in Oil Seeds Research, Farm Section and demonstrated a number of research results. Besides he has developed export production technology in pomegranate. He has made a significant contribution preparing five laboratory manuals and also writing kannada books on Grape, Pomegranate and Papaya. Currently he is assuming the duties of Professor and Head, Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, Bijapur (Karnataka). Dr. M.K. Sheikh has also the honour of serving the Ministry of Commerce, Saudi Arabia for two years.
